Welcome to the Sag Harbor Historical Society!

The multi-media exhibit “Our Long Beach - Its Surprising History” explores the beach and environs, pleasures and controversies from the time of the glacier to the Weckatuck Indians, to the Revolutionary War and Colonial period to the pleasure seekers of yesterday and today.  Surprises abound: Peter Cooper ventured out from the city and purchased land as did his son-in-law A.S. Hewitt.  During World War 1, the E.W. Bliss Co. tested torpedoes in Noyac Bay.
You may find yourself and familiar personalities included in the stories and pictures.

We welcome all of you who are interested in the fascinating history of one of America's most noted Whaling Ports!
Hopefully you will find this site informative and easy to navigate!
